Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand (Gwans Village): Harish Singh Negi, originally from Gwans village in Rudraprayag district, has today established himself as a successful Head Chef in the hotel industry. Born into a financially weak family, Harish spent his childhood working hard and supporting his family through small labor tasks in the village.

After completing his 12th standard, Harish moved into the hotel industry in search of employment. He began his career by washing utensils in a hotel. However, his dedication, passion for cooking, and continuous learning helped him grow step by step. With time, he mastered culinary skills and eventually achieved the prestigious position of Head Chef.

Harish credits his success to his father, Mr. Shur Singh Negi, a hardworking farmer who supported his family despite financial struggles. The classic entertainment social-drama, written and directed by Ajay Anand and creatively produced by Vikas Sharma, explores the deep-rooted struggles of life in Indian villages and small towns. The film highlights the journey of a young boy—son of a sanitation worker—who bravely confronts the challenges thrown at him by his village, neighbours, and local community. Despite constant opposition and pressure, especially from upper-caste individuals, he rises above discrimination and eventually becomes a symbol of inspiration and hope.

Produced by Vikas Sharma, Raghvendra, and co-producer Ramesh Sharma, Apna Amitabh throws light on the pervasive caste system and societal discrimination. The President of the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA), Mr. Abhay Sinha, emphasized the urgent need to expand affordable and accessible cinema infrastructure across India while speaking at the CII Big Picture Summit 2025.

Organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), the summit was held from December 1 to 2, 2025, at the JW Marriott Hotel, Juhu, Mumbai. The twelfth edition of the summit was themed “Connecting Creativity and Commerce in the AI Era” and brought together key leaders from government, media, technology and the entertainment industry.

IMPPA was represented at the summit by Senior Vice President Ms. Sushma Shiromani, Executive Committee Member and FMC General Secretary Mr. Nishant Ujjwal, along with Mr. Yusuf Sheikh and Mr. Manish Jain. The summit was chaired by Mr. Sanjay Jaju, Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.

One of the key sessions focused on “Cinema Infrastructure: Building Screens and Modern Theatres for Equitable Entertainment in India.” Addressing the session, Mr. Abhay Sinha highlighted the challenges faced by the exhibition sector, noting that multiplex ticket prices—often ranging between ₹200 and ₹250—are beyond the reach of low- and middle-income audiences. This, he said, has a direct impact on theatre footfalls and the overall growth of the film industry.

Mr. Sinha urged the government to review taxes such as TDS and GST imposed on theatres in order to provide relief and support to the exhibition sector. He also proposed the development of 100-seat mini cinema halls at bus depots and railway stations to make movie viewing more accessible to the common public.

Additionally, Mr. Sinha suggested the introduction of mobile theatres mounted on trucks, each with a seating capacity of 100, which could travel to small towns and rural areas. According to him, such initiatives would open new avenues for entertainment and expand cinematic outreach across the country.

The summit witnessed several innovative ideas aimed at strengthening India’s screen infrastructure and reaffirmed the industry’s collective commitment to inclusive, technology-driven growth.

Manthan: Let the Churn Begin Within You”, a solo show by U.S.–based artist and educator Anisha Sanghani at the Kamalnayan Bajaj Art Gallery, Nariman Point (December 1–6, 2025), is a visceral meditation on beauty, grief, and ecological crisis. Here, oceanic life and ancient mythology collide with the overwhelming weight of human excess, pulling viewers into a quiet but urgent reckoning.

Drawing on her background in fine arts, textiles, and graphic design, Sanghani reimagines the myth of Samudra Manthan as a contemporary environmental fable. In this retelling, the churning of the cosmic ocean no longer reveals divine treasures—it drags to the surface the refuse of modern life: plastic, poison, and unpayable debt to the natural world.

Her mixed-media canvases thrum with this tension between devotion and desecration. In The New Manthan, a lone sea turtle navigates waters swirling with serpents, sea creatures, and surreal mountains of plastic waste. In Wrath, an enraged goddess erupts from the depths, embodying the fury of deities witnessing the oceans they once guarded now defiled and suffocating.

Sanghani’s lush, layered technique draws viewers in with seductive beauty before confronting them with what lies underneath. That confrontation is rooted in reality: in a series of intense personal experiments, she submerged herself in water with her face wrapped in plastic, attempting to feel—however briefly—the suffocation endured by marine animals. “I became their voice,” she says. The image is unforgettable: a human tasting the terror we impose on an entire underwater world.

“Art cannot clean the oceans,” she reminds us, “but it can remind us of what they mean to us.”

Manthan becomes that reminder—a mirror held up to our habits, our convenience, and our capacity for denial. It asks: What do we take from the ocean? What do we return? And what will rise next if we continue to look away?

Sanghani invites every visitor into this inner churning—a shift toward awareness, responsibility, and renewal.

Actress Vandana K. Patil, who is making a name for herself in the Hindi and Marathi industries, is among the select few who are forging ahead with hard work, dedication, and a constant curiosity to learn. She has made an impact with her acting in every medium, including films, web series, TV shows, and music videos. In addition to acting, she has also worked as an associate director, and her command of Lavani and Bollywood dance makes her even more versatile.

She chose to buy a ticket because reaching work was her most important goal. She didn’t want to compromise her ideals by traveling without a ticket. Many times, breakfast would be over by the time she arrived on set, and she would shoot with complete dedication on an empty stomach. She believes that newcomers to the industry, those without a godfather, promise their parents that they will earn a name through hard work. However, many people, swayed by circumstances or influenced by others, end up going in the wrong direction. Vandana always advises to be patient, because opportunities, even if delayed, will surely come.

She says, “Don’t do anything against your conscience. Do something that makes you feel proud when you look at yourself in the mirror, not regretful.”

She further adds that there are struggles in this world of dreams, but when it does, it gives in abundance.

Vandana, a resident of Nashik, began her acting journey by chance when she came to Mumbai with her friend. There, she met her friend’s friend, a still photographer. A Marathi serial was being shot there. Suddenly, the serial’s team said, “Someone wants to do a two-line dialogue.” Vandana agreed, landing the role. Later, after seeing her on TV, her relatives and neighbors praised her profusely. This gave her the confidence to pursue acting. Back then, she didn’t even know the show was a hit Marathi serial. This moment changed the course of her career, and she made Mumbai her workplace.

Today, Vandana K. Patil is among those actresses who turn struggles into strengths, not weaknesses. Her constant desire to learn, hard work, professionalism, and passion for immersing herself in each role firmly establish her as one of the new generation of inspiring artists. In this new body of work, Dadasaheb Yadav steps away from the representational terrains that once anchored his explorations of monsoon, earth, and the fragrant immediacy of Earth. Instead, he enters the atmospheric unknown; an arena where gesture becomes geography, colour becomes emotion, and abstraction becomes a language of its own unrestrained logic. These watercolour and mixed-media surfaces carry forward his lifelong fidelity to nature, but they no longer describe it; they distill it.

The works surge with washes of violet, viridian, cobalt, cadmium gold, and sudden explosions of black; strokes that feel like weather rather than depiction. Yadav has always been an artist tuned into elemental rhythms. Here, those rhythms unspool into pure energy. The paintings breathe in gradients, drips, and splashes, suggesting the moment before a storm breaks, the hush between waves, the twilight blur of sky dissolving into land. But this time, the harmony he invokes is not pastoral; it is kinetic, restless, charged with the honesty of lived experience.

These abstractions demonstrate an artist unafraid to cut away the literal. What remains is an emotional architecture: atmospheres rather than landscapes, sensations rather than scenes. The viewer is invited into a space where colour becomes memory, movement becomes intuition, and the boundary between internal and external worlds collapses. This is harmony understood not as quietude, but as equilibrium born out of flux, nature’s true state.

Yadav’s mature confidence is evident in his handling of fluid media: bleeding edges that resist containment, fields of pigment that collide yet hold their ground. His gestures feel both spontaneous and inevitable, as if the work knows how to form itself. The paintings echo the lineage of abstract expressionism yet remain unmistakably rooted in his own sensibility, devotional to nature but no longer beholden to its forms.

In these works, Dadasaheb Yadav offers viewers not a window to the world but a mirror to their own internal weather. The visual intensity, the chromatic rush, the raw immediacy, all converge into a profound reminder that harmony is not found; it is felt, encountered, and made anew each time the colours meet.

The festival was formally inaugurated by H.E. Robert Maxian, Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to India, who lit the ceremonial lamp to commence the proceedings. This show was inaugurated on 12th November 2025 by Honourable Guest Mr. Rishiraj Sethi (CA, CFA Director, Aura Art Development Pvt. Ltd. in the presence of Mr. Sidharth(Eminent Artist), Gurcharan Singh(Eminent Artist), Mr. Mukesh Parpiani (Eminent Photographer), Bhupinder Brar, Jaspal Kamana, Ram Pratap Verma, Nirlep Singh, Amarjit Grewal, Subhash Parihar among others,

Dev Inder tries to comprehend the world of relationships through is photography work. Therefore, the three dimensional space he steps into becomes a suggestion and a cue for him creating “a relationship between two figures that had not existed before” John Szarkowski in The Photographer’s Eye. Endowed with an acute sense of seeing everything in the landscape comes forward to help unlock the doors of perception. Things like fallen branches, everydayness of a billboard,  reeds bending light’ly to the breeze, earth as seed of grass, clouds emanations of the trees, autumnal ciphers of grass are the anagrams he tries to read through portal of 35 mm. This diversity enhances his range of expression  with images happening at the focal plane of his artistic consciousness.

Nothing dies.

The ephemeral and the eternal coexisting as juxtaposed poles guide the compassionate lense of Dev Inder. Whatever he touches comes alive. “Landscape are culture before they are nature; constructs of the imagination projected onto wood, and water and rock.” Simon Schama (Landscape and Memory). And so, imbued with presences; actual or of the imagination Dev Inder’s pictures are the sites where he goes looking for resolution.

The photographer till the moment of shutter release is a condensed presence, all faculties summoned just to see. The very next moment everything evaporates; the scene, the self, the eye. The photographer folds his tripod and walks back. Behind his back the scene disintegrates into a lot of rock, trees, water and light. What of the nature shall we capture in a moment so profound? Dev Inder recounts visiting the same place to have a better shot but concludes “It’s not worth it. The moment was only  then.”

Aware of the paradox, Dev Inder invites life into the landscape with all its presences, real or metaphoric, arranging them in a rhythmic correspondence. The sky and the clouds in the  pictures lend weight to the frames, at once embracing and inhabiting the scene. The elements have terra-firma to stand on and solid space to grow into. Restrained tonal range subsumes hierarchies in participatory fervour.

He is also a minimalist in the sense in which he transforms landscapes into relationships with minimum appurtenance. In one of the photograph through deft composition he has tried to bind the entire valley in visual embrace with warped arms as tendrils curling around the visibilities in the frame. It is a photograph about union, the tree supplanting Dev Inder to enter into an embrace.  Dwelling on the same strand let’s look at the picture of the More’ plains from Ladakh. By now most of us are familiar with the sweeping vistas of More’ plains and to most of us a wide angle shot of its immense physicality is enough to fill the frame of our imagination.  But Dev Inder’s picture shows a vehicle emerging out of the far end of the convergence. Far from being a sedate perspective shot it seems to suggest life emerging out of land’s end, throbbing with presence.

The contemplative spirit of his work is also visible in another photograph; a small plant with broad leaves cradled by a rock with a shoot circling over to the top of the rock. There’s a risk of it being viewed as a binary of the animate and inanimate. But rounded edges of the rock and the encircling branch, the third element in the picture, make it into a picture of ecology. Rock is not passive. Giving off itself, rounding off angularities it supports and germinates life. He rock is not a theatre where life is enacted. It is part of life itself. The picture stops us to ponder.

Dev Inder also converses through spatial ambiguity and abstraction. Pliant space gets modulated into anagrams of intrigue and discovery. Abstraction is a reality whose meaning is yet to arrive. But this doesn’t make all randomness abstract. Unless the artist stands at the cusp of intelligibility of the patterns he/she ciphers the end product would be still-born. Aware of this, his semantic lexicon employs symbols with cultural affinity, for example concentric rings at the heart of a rock evoke the memory of a tree, towering rocks come alive with human forms in another picture. By reflecting near in the far Dev Inder is able to locate rhythm in seemingly vast randomness of the landscape. At times acute compression  of the perspective melds the landscape into architecture. Afterall “it is our shaping perception that makes the difference between raw material and landscape” (Simon Schama; Landscape and Memory).

On rare occasion when he uses negative space he does so with finesse and purpose. In the picture where a man rests under the shadow of a rock which rests upon rather tenuously on a bigger rock. The chunk of negative space on the left if not attended to properly  would make the composition precarious. However an aware photographer waits for the arrival of human form to step into that space, solidly anchoring the rock. Visually addressing the precarity of the rock tremendously enhances the restfulness of the scene.

In creating a consciousness of relationships, intimacy and intrigue Dev Inder invites the landscape to partner him. Dead stumps rise up in vertical verse. Lifeless branches of trees lying on the ground, breathless and bleached, become animated limbs by delicate handling of the form and tones. Landscapes of grit start teaming with life and redemption. As Walter Pater has famously said “All art constantly aspires towards condition of music”, we hear notes of music rise in Dev Inder’s “The Echoes of Silence”

UTKARSA marks a sincere tribute to the life and creative legacy of J. M. S. Mani (1948–2021), one of Karnataka’s most revered modern artists and a transformative educator. Curated by Darshan Kumar YU, Curator(Muesmuseologist), artist & Thinker, Omit Curator NGMA, Bengaluru, and presented by JMS Mani’s family, this posthumous exhibition draws together key works spanning his iconic Badami series, expressive landscapes, and sensitive charcoal and mixed-media drawings and sketches, offering Mumbai audiences an intimate encounter with an artist who shaped both canvas and community.

His first solo show happened in Jehangir Art Gallery in 70’s.

Rooted in a rigorous academic foundation, Mani’s early practice honed traditional disciplines of light, form and perspective, later blossoming into an intuitive painterly vocabulary that balanced realism, symbolism and emotional intensity. His celebrated Badami series remains central to Indian art discourse, elongated rural figures, dusky-skinned, rendered with sincerity and grace, their gestures carrying the poetry of daily labour and social memory. These works reaffirm Mani’s lifelong conviction that dignity lives in the ordinary and beauty in lived experience. Equally powerful are Mani’s landscape studies, from the atmospheric ruins of Hampi to abstracted chromatic vistas, where nature becomes metaphor for time, memory and the human spirit. His drawings, often executed in charcoal, reveal a master draftsman able to distill emotion through line alone, capturing movement, fragility and stillness in equal measure. Throughout his evolving practice, Mani cultivated his studio as a sanctuary of creativity and learning, a space meticulously organised yet spirited, where students, artists and grandchildren entered freely. As a devoted teacher and principal at Ken School of Art, he encouraged experimentation, peer support and the courage to think beyond conventions. His belief in nurturing the next generation remains one of his greatest contributions to Indian art.

UTKARṢA honours not only a master painter but a mentor whose life’s work embodies artistic excellence, humility, and the deep conviction that art must stay rooted in humanity. Sonu Gupta’s solo exhibition ‘Aawaran’ moves like a quiet blade through the theatre of human psychology. These works aren’t content with surface aesthetics; they pierce the soft underbelly of identity, asking the viewer to confront their many selves; the borrowed masks, the inherited fears, the curated performances we stitch into our skin simply to survive society. Gupta does not lecture; he reveals. Patiently. Relentlessly. With tenderness and unease in equal measure.

This show was inaugurated on 10th November 2025 by Honorable Guest Padmashri Dr. Soma Ghosh – Indian Singer of Hindustani Classical Music, in the presence of Mr. Padmanabh Bendre(Eminent Artist), Mr. Siddharth(Veteran Artist), Mr. Dev Inder(Eminent Photographer), Rishiraj Sethi (Director – Aura Art Development Pvt. Ltd.), Vishwa Sahni(Renowned Artist) among others.

The figures here hover between flesh and fiction. The artist realistically rendered their bodies, but their presence dissolves into abstraction, as if memory itself is glitching. Masks appear not as props, but as organs we have grown used to breathing through. Some are stark white, sterile and compliant; others burn with ornamental complexity, as though the mind’s labyrinth has finally broken the skin. There is a ritualistic undertone, a soft echo of purification rites shadowed by the modern fatigue of having to constantly recalibrate one’s face for the world.

Gupta’s palette, warm and muted, feels ancient and digital at once, earth and algorithm in conversation. These blurred edges and pixelated textures quietly insist that identity today is never fully analog, never fully sincere. We live filtered. We feel edited.
